Goyo Montero

Born in 1975 in Madrid Spain , Goyo Montero studied with Carmen Roche, he is graduated in the Real Conservatorio de Danza de Madrid and the School from the National Ballet of Cuba, among his teachers are Azary Plisetzsky, Mirta Pla, Aurora Bosch and Lazaro Carreño. Winner of the Prix Professionel in the International Ballet Competition of Lausanne in 1993 and the Gold Medal and Grand Prix in the international Ballet Competition of Luxembourg in 1996.

He is been Soloist in the Leipziger Ballet, Staatstheater Wiesbaden and Royal Ballet of Flanders . In 1999 he joined the Deutsche Oper Berlin where he was Principal Dancer until 2004.

He was chosen Best Male Dancer from the season 2003-2004 for the solo Piano Rag Music&Tango from Uwe Scholz in the Critic's Choice-Dance Europe Magazine.

As choreographer he started his career with "SquareX7" for Deutsche Oper Berlin, "The Magnetic Fields" for the Festival "Madrid en Danza 2001" later restaged for the Ankara State Ballet ,Izmir State Ballet (Turkey) and Ballett Kiel(Germany) "Del Rojo de su Sombra" for the company Modern Dance Turkey,"2X1" co-coreographed with his Father-Goyo Montero- for the Festival "Madrid en Danza 2003".

His piece "Vasos Comunicantes" a full lenght Ballet for eight dancers and three musicians produced by the Ministery of Culture of Spain was Premiered in November 2003 in the Kursaal Auditorium in San Sebastian and after is been performed in the International Dance and Music Festival of Granada 2004,Teatro Maestranza-Sevilla- ,Teatro Real-Madrid, International Dance and Music Festival Cueva de Nerja 2005 and the XX international Ballet Festival of La Habana.

In 2004 he creates "Godspeed" for the Noverre Society of the Stuttgart Ballet. He also creates the choreography for the Staged Oratorium "Das Paradies und die Peri" from Robert Schumann with Gregor Seyffert and Company , Gottfried Helnwein, the Düsseldorf Symphoniker
and Städischer Musikverein.

In 2005 he creates "Anacrusa" for the RCPDM, the Solo "Come Again" for the Festival "Veranos de la Villa" also performed in the International Tokyo Forum-Japan in the ocasion of the "Gala de Danza Española".
He creates "Desde Otello"(from Otello), full lenght dance-theater production for the company BCR in Madrid performed in the International Festival "Madrid en Danza 2006" this Piece was awarded with the prestigious price "Villa de Madrid 2006" for Best Choreography.
Also creates the full lenght performance "La música danza" for the VII International Festival of Contemporary Music from Madrid:COMA-fusión 2005.
In 2006 he creates "Alrededor no hay nada"(Nothing around) for the RCPDM winning the competition VI Marathon of Dance Teatro de Madrid .
He was awarded with the First Price from the V Iberoamerican Competition of Choreography with his piece"El Dia de la Creación" that was Premiered in the XX International Ballet Festival of La Habana with the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and takes part of his repertoire .This piece was also awarded with the Price Villanueva 2006( award given by the UNEAC -Union of Writers ,Critics and Artist of Cuba) .
In 2006 he created a new version of the classic "The Sleeping Beauty" for the Ballet de Teatres de la Generalitat Valenciana later restaged for the company Maggiodanza and Premiered in the 71º Festival Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.For this piece he received the award Danza&Danza 2008 for the best production.
In 2007 he creates "Benditos Malditos" for the festival Veranos de la Villa 2007 after re-staged for the Nürnberg Ballet.
He became Director and Head Choreographer of the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet from season 2008-2009 .
In 2008 he also created the Solo "Ella es Agua" for Tamara Rojo Premiered on the ocasion of the Expo Zaragoza's clausure ceremony .
His last creation is his version of Shakespeare`s "Romeo and Julia" for the Staasttheater Nürnberg Ballet.
